The Belgian ID card – Expected soon in Keesing Documentchecker
The Belgian Identity card was first issued on November 16, 2021. The new design – which now features an EU flag with the letters ‘BE’ – meets the requirements set out in Regulation (EU) 2019/1157.
The Belgium identity card is a highly secured ID document and includes, among others; a two-letter country code BE printed in a blue rectangle and encircled by 12 yellow stars; an Optically Variable Device (OVD) and a Tilted Laser Image (TLI) on the back side. The card is made of polycarbonate and filled in by laser engraving and contains a multiple colors of UV ink on the front and back of the card.
