New European regulations aim to strengthen the security of identity cards of all EU countries. In the new model of this ID card the Dutch government has introduced a number of innovations.
The Dutch identity card was first issued on August 02-2021 and contains a contactless chip that meets the ICAO specifications. With the addition of new security features such as the EU flag, a QR code providing access to the citizen service number (BSN) on the back and two fingerprints of the card holder on the chip, the Dutch ID card meets the latest European standards for identity cards.
